Debt-Free at 38: Our Story & My Role as an Accredited Financial Counselor
By the age of 38, my husband and I had paid off over $500k of debt. Yes, you read that correctly. We had everything – school loans, car loans, credit cards, home equity loans, mortgage, etc.
I do not say this from a place of self-righteousness, but to let you know I’ve struggled with managing money (still do, sometimes!) but there is hope. Talking about your financial situation with an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) like myself can help lessen any burden you may feel.
Many people assume that AFC’s and Financial Advisors are the same; however, there are key differences. Financial Advisors manage investments and create long-term wealth strategies for people who already have a good chunk of money to work with.
As an AFC, I am trained to assist with everyday financial concepts like:
1) Building and maintaining good credit
2) Developing a spending plan based on individualized goals
3) Borrowing and debt management tactics
4) Saving for big-ticket items like retirement
5) Strategies for making large purchases such as a home
6) Managing property, liability, and health risk (Insurance)
The best part? I provide a confidential and judgment-free zone, encouraging and supporting you through your financial journey without shame. If you could use extra support with your household or business finances, don’t hesitate to reach out.
