Unlock $700 Savings This Month!

How would you like to have an extra $700 in your bank account? My average client saves a little more than this in their first month of working with me. Below I’ve listed key actions you can take around your house and with your finances that result in big savings for those willing to put in the effort.

#1 Tip: Get Organized!

Food: Organize your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer, taking inventory of all items that can be used to make a meal. Keep record of all meats you have on hand (assuming you’re not vegetarian/vegan), then use this as the starting point for creating a meal list. When you go to the grocery store, only buy what you need to make the meals on your list.

Toiletries: Group together similar items such as hair products, lotions, & makeup.  The next time you’re tempted to buy the latest trendy item you found on social media, go “shopping” in your own inventory to see if there is something you can supplement in its place versus buying new. The first time I performed this exercise I uncovered an unknown shampoo fetish.

Clothing: Before buying new clothing for that event next month, check out what you already have. If you are holding onto items you haven’t worn in 1+ years, what are you waiting for? Sell it to make up some of the cost of the new item you want or donate it for the tax write-off.

Finances: Review your bank and card statements to identify where your money spigot may be leaking.

  • You know those enticing ‘Subscribe and Save’ options Amazon offers that save you 20% on future orders? How many times have you received something you forgot you signed up for, then never returned it despite not needing it? Sometimes it’s much cheaper just paying the full price.
  • Decide whether you need multiple, similar services.
    • Music streaming: Apple, Spotify, Tidal
    • Entertainment streaming: Max, Hulu, Disney +, YouTube
    • Food & Beverage: Blue Apron, Coffee subscriptions.
    • Beauty & Fashion: Ipsy, Birchbox, Stitch Fix
    • Gaming: Xbox game pass, PlayStation Plus
  • Paying for services you’re not using? (ahem, those gym memberships)
  • Pay attention to the apps your kids use which have your credit card information. I see kids buying games, movies, etc. regularly, much to their parents’ surprise.
  • Convenience services like food delivery (DoorDash, Grub Hub) cost a premium… and the food you receive is usually cold because your driver had 3 stops before your house. Consider cancelling to remove the temptation, then get takeout for special occasions.

You can always reinstate these items penalty free if you decide you need them in your life.

Returns: So. Many. People. lose money because they miss their return window. When you purchase something, decide quickly whether you’ll keep it or not. Choose to be disciplined and return the item(s) timely.

Financial wellness is a journey. Start small, stay consistent, and watch as your efforts compound over time.
